All roofs need preparation before solar panels can be fitted. The roof on to which the panels are to be fitted must be water tight, and in a usable condition to support the solar array for at least 25 years.
Virtually all roofs need some form of ‘recovery’ prior to panel installation.

Key issues include:
Paying particular attention to the foam filler, applying a butyl sealant, and applying a new ridge cap
These can impact panel location.
- If the client wishes to keep their skylights, they must be of sound construction, and free from leakage; any damaged skylights must be replaced
- If no longer required, skylights can be overclad before panel installation, but they must be watertight
If cut during original roof construction, ‘cut edge’ corrosion develops
- If identified early, cut edge corrosion may be repaired
- Extensive corrosion may require areas to be cut out and replaced
- If corrosion becomes extensive, then the roof will fail
All debris and organic matter must be removed prior to application of any coatings
- This involves a 4000 psi pressure wash
Involves grinding out, sealing, and priming with a specialised coating which can extend roof life by up to 35 years.
- Philotimo are accredited with the coating manufacturers HD Sharman Ltd and DriSilane, and can carry out cut edge corrosion repairs
- If a Philotimo maintenance contract is in place, the roof will be visually inspected biannually, and client will receive a warranty for roof repairs carried out
For one Philotimo client, electricity savings paid for the roof repairs!
