About Philotimo

Philotimo are one of the UK's leading solar power and energy infrastructure partners. We assist blue-chip organisations to accelerate their 'net zero' and sustainability ambitions.

PHILOTIMO

Philotimo [fee-loh-tee-moh]

Philotimo is a Greek noun that translates to 'Lover of Honour'. It can be broken into two parts:

“Philos” - that which is loved or important, or from a friend, and “Timi” - Honour.

It's not just a company name; it's our business philosophy. It defines how we operate, behave, and make decisions.

Philotimo is our commitment to uphold high standards in the solar industry, ensuring integrity with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.

What this means:

Honour & Duty

Doing things right and doing what is right

In other words, it's about meeting our obligations not just for self-interest and profit, but because it's the right thing to do. Our installations, which by their nature operate over 25 years, thrive on long-term partnerships supported by multi-year contracts based on trust built through doing the right things for everyone, not just ourselves.

“It is not enough that we do our best; sometimes we must do what is required.”
Winston S. Churchill

Integrity

Integrity - no ‘snake oil’ sales techniques

Some in our industry may sometimes mis-sell and overstate their competence, resulting in disappointment and unmet expectations. We commit to not engaging in such practices. Our approach is to keep things straightforward, ensuring our propositions are evidence-based and transparent. We use only agreed data and assumptions, which are checked and validated after the commencement of commercial operation.

No working with ‘oil & gas’ and the ‘big six’ energy suppliers

We will not assist the oil and gas companies and the big six energy suppliers in their ‘greenwashing’ exercises, and shame those who choose these morally bankrupt organisations for their lazy procurement – we believe there are better alternative.
These organisations exploit their market dominance and low capital costs, gained from years of overcharging clients, profiting from both the energy crisis and weak governments.
We’ve had the misfortune of working with these organisations for others in the past; they were incompetent technically and construction wise, commercial bullies and arrogant in the extreme.

Pride

Taking pride in ‘everything’ we do

Whether its our workmanship or our interactions with others, we take pride in what we do and the way we are perceived. We take as much pride in the small things and the details, as we do the big things.
We try to be the best versions of ourselves every day, continuously learning and improving, doing our best work, even if it takes a little longer, costs a little more and requires more attention. We believe it’s worthwhile and makes a difference.
One of the reasons we do what we do, is the legacy of what we create and leave for others. Whether it is the high-quality, high-performance assets we build, or the teams we assemble, our interactions and experiences with others, or the memories we make together. They matter equally. Because we want to look upon them all with pride.

Courage

To dare

We had the courage to dare to establish the business overcoming the normal start-up challenges and despite threats from others.
We have the courage of our beliefs and results in what we do and the way we do it. Our business model is different to others in the sector, which enables us to access the very best people and products in our industry to deliver a superior service experience.
We have the courage to diversify our services, learn new skills, continuously improve, invest in the business, and manage our high growth profitably.
We have the leadership courage to empower our teams to use their judgement to make the right decisions, which means we are doing the right things at all levels.

Community

One team

We are ‘one team’ made up of our existing and prospective clients, suppliers, subcontractors, families, and everyone we encounter and engage every day; this is our community.
We are humble enough to know that what we think of ourselves isn’t important. Instead, we define ourselves by the respect shown by our community and their opinions and perceptions of us.
